Surrounded by a ring of sand, this forest core is accessible by motor boat, catamaran or canoe from La Gaulette, Le Morne, Grande Case Noyale, Petite Rivière Noire or Flic en Flac. There are plenty of providers to take you to this little corner of paradise and some even organize a day of tanning, swimming, diving, swimming with dolphins with barbecue.

This village has a strange name, but what it offers its visitors is magnificent. Sheltered from the wind, this place has kept a very Mauritian flavour. Located 4 km from Flic en Flac, Casela is both a zoo and an amusement park. This largest animal shelter in the Indian Ocean has been welcoming the public since 1979: zebras, giraffes, antelopes, hippopotamuses, ostriches, giant turtles, lions, macaques and others will make you live a unique experience. In the cheetah and lynx enclosure, you will also find real happiness. Casela is also known as a bird sanctuary, but to attract a wide audience, other concepts have been developed: karting, zip lines, canyoning, suspension bridge, quad and segway.

An escapade in the Black River Gorges

The Black River Gorges are home to 310 species of native trees, plants and flowers and endemic bird species on nearly 7,000 hectares. The sanctuary also includes many must-see sites such as the Piton de la Rivière Noire (828 m) which is the highest point in Mauritius. Experienced walkers will also find many trails.

Fishing in Grande Rivière Noire Bay

Located in front of the green hills, this bay is home to a deep-sea fishing fleet, as you will find the largest marlin in Mauritius, which can reach 4 m and weigh up to 700 kg. This specificity has led many boats to take tourists on board for tough and invigorating fishing sessions.

For those looking for active leisure, the summit of Le Morne Brabant is a good address. This place is located at the extreme southwest of the island and dominates the sea by 556 m. The ascent is done in the cool, for the final part, steep and vertiginous, a guide will accompany you. After a long climb, the beautiful view of the ocean, sandy beaches, hotels, coastal villages will give you back strength before you take the return trip.

Le Morne Brabant is also a perfect place for swimming and relaxing. Dominated by the mass of the mountain, its long stretch of white sand is its greatest charm. To relax and swim, don’t go sideways, as it is only in the northern direction of the beach that you will enjoy calm crystal-clear water. Surfers and windsurfers will find their happiness on the south side of the beach. Le Morne and its beach form a paradisiacal setting and this corner of paradise is famous for its hotels and golf courses. Right in front of the horizon, in the evening enjoy the sunset during your romantic excursion, an ideal activity for a memorable honeymoon. Taste Mauritian rum in Chamarel

The village of Chamarel is located on the plateaus above Grande Case Noyale. Apart from its impressive waterfall of nearly 100 m high, especially from January to April, it is also known for its rum distillery. To produce the alcohol, the distillery uses sugar cane from the plateau. During your visit, you can visit this place and taste the excellent quality rum of the village.

Drive to Baie du Cap

It is considered to be the most beautiful coastal route in the Indian Ocean. The road to Baie du Cap runs along the turquoise sea and golden sandy beaches between Le Morne and Bel Ombre. It crosses fishing villages and sugar cane fields. Its route is made famous by the famous Maconde bend. The latter also offers a wide-angle view of the Bay of Cape Town, of course, on this promontory turned into a belvedere, the photo stop is mandatory for everyone.
